What is the Agnipath Scheme?
The Agnipath Scheme is a pan-India recruitment process to enroll young soldiers, called Agniveers, into the Indian Armed Forces for a four-year period. It aims to bring in younger and technically-skilled personnel into the forces.
Tenure: 4 years (including training)
Post-service opportunity: Up to 25% of Agniveers may be selected for permanent service after completing 4 years.
Others will receive a Seva Nidhi package, skill certificates, and job preference in the government/private sectors.
Eligibility Criteria for Agniveer Recruitment
Age Limit:
Minimum Age: 17.5 years
Maximum Age: 21 years
(Sometimes extended depending on notifications. Example: 23 years in 2022)
Nationality:
Must be a citizen of India
Nepalese and Bhutanese nationals are also eligible
Educational Qualifications
The required educational qualification varies for each wing of the armed forces:
